Where to Go in Paris / Eiffel Tower

Me waiting in the queue for Eiffel
How to Get There

Use the underground, stops named "Bir-Hakeim" and "Champ de Mars - Tour Eiffel" are the closest ones to the tower. Follow the directions on the streets after leaving the underground.

As we all know, the most famous building in Paris is the Eiffel Tower. You must see the Eiffel before you die! Definitely a fascinating masterpiece, an example of creativity. Besides, it is one of the few buildings that do not give effort to stay in balance with Paris's 18th century atmosphere. Therefore, it took many negative criticism in its time. Most of the Parisians strongly supported the idea that the tower would not take any attention at all. The most important reason of this can be considered as the difference between the architecture of the city and the tower.

However, just the opposite, the Eiffel Tower which was built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889, has been seen as one of the first steps of modern art. When we consider that the tower is recalled with the city Paris most of the time, Gustave Eiffel seems to have showed us an example of success.
Those who visited Paris before surely know; every season of the year, there is a long queue right in front of the tower's entrance. With long I mean, a queue that will cause you wait for one and a half or perhaps two hours! The season I visited Paris was a season that captures less visitors comparing to other seasons. Nevertheless, we had to wait over two hours in the queue. If you are one of those saying "I have seen the Eiffel from a very close distance, but I would also love to get to the top of it", then you will need to be prepared to wait in this queue. But afterwards, you see it was worth it when you get to the top of the tower. Paris is under your feet! That harmony, that excellence has been hidden into the very heart of the city. An incredible perfectness in the bird-eyes view of the city.

To get to the top of the tower, people mostly use the lifts; however, if you say "I can handle it", you will need to climb up more than 300 steps to the first floor - the floor seen as the first circle on the tower. To the floor that stays right above the first floor, 300 more steps to go... At the end, you will need to use the lifts to be able to get to the top as this is mandatory.
The list of country distances

The lifts are quite fast; I could even say they were the fastest lifts I have ever been to (Another one was the famous Olympia Tower in Munich. We had arrived to the top floor within only 3 seconds! 190 meters above the ground...) The best part was that the lifts were surrounded with glasses, so that we were able to view Paris and the surroundings around Eiffel. One of the unforgettable moments... If you could have managed to find your way out of the crowd and get to the top via one of the lifts, then you can watch the view of the central city.

If you are planning to dine on the tower, great restaurants are located on the first and second floors. But keep in mind that these restaurants are a bit more expensive comparing to most of the other restaurants in Paris. The top floor is not a convenient area to dine; therefore, there is no restaurants on that one. On this floor, you can see only a long list of Eiffel's distance to other countries on the ceiling and small telescopes. Actually, the top floor consists of two floors; the floor under is surrounded with glass, and the roof floor is surrounded with wires only. Despite of these wires, you may not be able to look down anyway!
View from the top floor

If the weather is not so cold, you may view the city for a long while and take pictures. It is such a great feeling being able to see one of the famous and beautiful European cities from the bird-eyes view that it is even worth to wait in the queue for two hours!

I would recommend to those who are planning to climb up to the top of the tower that they would better check the prices written in the entrance. When I visited the tower, it was about 25 Euros per person. So we had to pay 100 Euros for four people in total, but if you are a student and if you say "I am OK with the view from here", then you may witness the magnificence of the tower even from under it.
Another well-known thing about Eiffel Tower is the garden it has around which allows you to have joyful walks. Youngsters mostly prefer lying down on the grass, under the sun when the weather is good. If you visit the Eiffel Tower in spring or summer, I would recommend you to explore the surroundings as well.
