PARIS - Useful tips about Paris

One of the bridges on Seine

My first blog post named `Paris Part II` was mostly based on the Eiffel Tower, which included my experiences in and out the tower, and before going on with Paris, I just wanted to mark some important points and give useful tips to the readers.
Paris is one of the hugest and busiest cities in Europe, and as a result of its size, there are countless things to do and loads of places to go. Thank God, the city has a great transportation system, especially the underground network was designed just perfect, so you can go anywhere you want in just a couple of minutes! As you will see later on, very fortunately, I managed to see the most important museums, cafés, churchs, gardens, clubs, famous streets and historical buildings of Paris, and only 6-7 days have been enough for that! Therefore, if you plan a stay for one week in Paris, I guarantee you will be able to see the most important parts of the city.

Since I love `art` kinds of things most, I preferred visiting gothic churchs, historical buildings, famous museums, and old bookstores, but if you are mostly interested in shopping and fashion, I would recommend you the famous boulevard, Champs-Élysées - known as Avenue des Champs-Élysées in French. There you can find all the luxurious brands and high-quality cafés which will make you feel like you are a Hollywood star in a French Movie - Film Français! (For those who have not seen the film `Angel-A`, find it and watch. You will be impressed by the great atmosphere of Paris!)

And here is a list of where I went and little information about them. I will write more about these places in detail later on, so for now I only mention a little:
  • Notre-Dame: The famous gothic cathedral we all know from the story of an ugly stooped man and a gipsy.
  • Louvre Museum - Musée du Louvre in French: Incredibly huge and unique. Numerous masterpieces from all eras! Italian art, French art, German art, Greek art and further. Besides all, Mona Lisa is right there! In front of your eyes!
  • Eiffel Tower: As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, the tower is just a sample of modern architecture and beauty!
  • Panthéon: A Neo-classical church with a quite interesting story. Worth seeing!
  • Museum of Science: Cité des Sciences et de l`Industrie is its original name. Primary and secondary school students were all around, exploring the museum in curiosity. All sorts of scientific experiments, interesting activities and astronomic hours - which made me excited during the tour!
  • Café de Flore: Located on the famous Boulevard St-Germain, was a common place for medieaval artists and philosophers, one of the most visited destinations for celebrities of today, nice decoration and high prices.
  • Disneyland: When you get into Disneyland, it makes you feel as if you are Alice in Wonderland! A magical world, respectively well-designed, exciting Roller Coasters, fun games and epic castles for children, lovely train tour and more!
  • Jardin du Luxembourg: Gardens of Luxembourg. A peaceful place right in the middle of Paris.
  • École Militaire: A school for military. It has interesting doors outside, so we took some pictures in front of them.
  • Hôtel des Invalides: Used as a hospital for army during the Second World War. In this Invalides area, interesting acting-shows are held during the day and you can see horses, horse riders, horseshoe makers and related stuff.
  • Church Dôme: Known as the church of the army, located in Invalides. Napoléon Bonaparte is buried in this church.
  • Moulin Rouge: A place to go at night. Most of us know it from the movie `Moulin Rouge` which was acted by Nicole Kidman. It was a famous night club until 1900, but turned into a dance hall later on. Severals dance shows for Parisians are held in this hall nowadays.
  • Arc De Triomphe: An arch made for the big Austerlitz triumph of Napoléon in 1806. If you take a look from the sky, it will seem as the heart of the city.
  • Seine River: One of the characteristical properties of Paris. It separates the city into two pieces, and artistic bridges you can see everywhere on Seine easily mesmerise you.
Some catalogues I collected when I was in Paris

These were the places I had chance to visit, but there are other places that I could offer:
  • Maison de Victor Hugo: Where Victor Hugo had lived... Now some of his works are exhibited in this museum. A Must Go place for art-lovers!
  • Musée Picasso: The best pieces of Picasso collection that mostly consist of his original works is exhibited in this museum. Another Must Go for art-lovers.
  • St-Germain-des-Prés: The oldest church of Paris which is now the house of Descartes and the King of Poland.
  • La Sorbonne: The worldwide famous university of Paris, with great architecture!
  • Musée Rodin: Another museum for art-lovers, Rodin`s works is exhibited in the museum.
  • Escape Dalí Montmartre: An exhibition centre that includes 330 pieces of Salvador  Dalí`s original works.
  • Musée Edith Piaf: Famous singer Edith Piaf`s life can be seen with her family photos, letters, her own belongings and similar stuff in this museum.
Due to my very busy programme and limited time, I had no chance to go any of these and this made me sad to be honest. If you ever have a chance to visit Paris, make sure you see most of the aforementioned places.

I will keep posting you on my journey to Paris, and yet there are loaads loads loads of things that I want to write, so keep following me!

My next blog will include further useful tips such as food &restaurant advises, prices in Paris and details of the tranportation system and so on. For the detailed information of places I mentioned above, you will need to wait a bit longer.

Cheers,
Julie
